Nicholas Godejohn: trial and later proceedings
Nicholas Godejohn was prosecuted separately for the killing of Dee Dee Blanchard. A jury convicted him of first-degree murder in November 2018. On 22 February 2019, he was sentenced to life without parole, with a concurrent 25-year sentence for armed criminal action.[1]
The trial
Missourinet’s report from the trial described Gypsy’s testimony about planning the killing. The defence presented evidence concerning diminished capacity, while the prosecution’s rebuttal expert addressed his capacity to contemplate the crime.[2]
Later proceedings
KY3 reported in March 2023 that a Greene County judge had denied a motion seeking a new trial.[3] A separate federal habeas corpus proceeding, Godejohn v. Vandergriff, was filed in the Western District of Missouri on 10 March 2025, under case number 6:2025cv03068.[4]
The linked public docket snapshot says it was last retrieved on 31 July 2025. Its entries document filings and procedural orders through that date; they do not establish the case’s current outcome.[5]
Distinction from Gypsy’s case
Gypsy’s 2016 plea and Godejohn’s jury conviction are separate parts of the case. Descriptions of either proceeding should preserve the defendant, charge, date, and source rather than combine them into one verdict.
