Use Create a page to choose a page type. Each standalone page gets its own title, discussion page and edit history. Timelines are optional. You do not need to attach it to a person.

Standalone pages

Type Use it for Browse
Person profile A person People
Community A community, fandom, forum, or informal group Communities
Project A website, channel, publication, or ongoing project Projects
General Article Any other subject that deserves its own page General Articles

Choose a page type and enter the subject's name, then choose Continue to editor or Continue in source editor. Review the starter, write a sourced introduction, and remove unused headings. Nothing is published until you save in the editor.

Page-type selection is required before creating an article, including when following a red link or opening either editor directly. The wiki maintains the matching category so the page appears under its type in Browse pages. Only pages in Category:Profiles appear in the homepage's recently updated people list.

Changing a page type

Open the article and select Change page type beneath its title, or Page type in its page tools. Choose the new type and save. This preserves the page's text, address, discussion and revision history, and updates its type category automatically. Confirmed editors can use this control, subject to the page's normal protection.

Standalone articles offer the four standalone types. Subpages offer Related page, Incident report and Research notes. Changing a subpage's type does not move its address or detach it from its parent.

Use a Related page when a topic belongs under an existing person, community, project, or general article. Choose the Related subject and enter only the topic's title. For example, a community's topic is saved as Community name/Topic.

Incident report and Research notes provide optional starter formats. They are saved as Subject/Incidents/Title and Subject/Research/Title. General related pages can use any structure that suits the topic.

Open a subject's Related pages tab to find or create its subpages. Each subpage links back to its parent. A community that is relevant to several people should generally have its own standalone page, with links to those people, rather than being placed under just one person.

Page layouts and sub-wikis

On the creation form, choose Regular article or Sub-wiki home. A sub-wiki home organizes a collection of nested articles beneath the subject. Existing articles can switch layouts through their Page options tab. See How to create a sub-wiki for nested pages, local navigation and readable addresses.

Timelines

Timelines are optional for every article. Choose Include a timeline when creating a page, or use Page options and check Show a timeline on this page afterward. New pages default to a regular article without a timeline.

When enabled, the editor maintains a Timeline section automatically. Use Add the first event or the Timeline tab after publishing. Events are stored in a protected /Timeline subpage. Turning the feature off hides the section and tab while preserving all saved events, sources, locks, Trash and history. Existing timelines with saved data stay enabled until explicitly turned off. The site main page cannot have a timeline.
